In today’s Guardian there is an article about Project Prevention, it’s plans for the UK and the recent trip to Glasgow’s Possil Park by Barbara Harris. A bit of balance

There is a bit of a storm raging over the recent amendments to safeguarding and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). Many nurses seem to think that they are being singled out for unfair treatment and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is opposing the new system as a result.

Since our society can’t have a perfect system do we want the government to opt for one that protects the vulnerable or one that allows abusers to slip through the net?

NHS ASBO

I wonder how long it will be before Mr. Dearlove takes the obvious next step and secures for himself up to five years worth of accommodation ‘at Her Majesty’s pleasure’ by breaching his ASBO. Perhaps instead of criminalising desperate people, the resources required to keep a homeless man in prison for five years would be better spent as part of a package providing reasonable alternatives to sleeping out.

Derrick Bird is dead

It matters not for this argument that Bird is, or was (allegedly) guilty of indiscriminate murder. That’s not my point. Had he lived the courts would have dealt with him according to law. My point concerns the relish with which so many of our citizens imagine inflicting their own brand of sadism on to another human being.
